Klopp will cut losses on Karius

- By David Lynch

LIVERPOOL are hoping to cut their losses on Loris Karius by letting the flop keeper leave for free in January.

The German is out of contract at the end of the season and will be allowed to depart for nothing when the transfer window opens as he looks to resurrect his career.

Karius has not featured in a competitive game for the Reds since a calamitous showing in the 2018 Champions League final. The errors that handed two goals to Real Madrid as Jurgen Klopp’s side were beaten 3-1 in Kiev were later blamed on a concussion sustained in a clash with Sergio Ramos.

However, the 28-year-old was replaced between the sticks by Alisson that summer, and has spent the last three campaigns out on loan.

Despite being fit again after a shoulder injury, Karius failed even to make the bench in the Carabao Cup win at Preston in midweek in the absence of first and second-choice goalkeepers Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher.

With prospects unlikely to change in the months ahead, the 28-year-old, who spent two years at Manchester City early in his career, is keen to secure a January move that will bring a permanent end to a forgettable stint at Anfield.
