JONATHAN HOGG headed Huddersfield into the play-off places — but Millwall boss Gary Rowett reckons his side were robbed late on.

Terriers skipper Hogg (above), the club’s longest-serving player, nodded in a leftwing corner from Sorba Thomas in the 82nd minute to leave Carlos Corberan beaming with delight.

Hogg, 32, enjoyed a fine game in midfield and a Town side who fought relegation last season are emerging as genuine promotion contenders.

Corberan said: “We know that Hoggy is a special player for the club and the squad.

“He was one of the most important players before I arrived here.

“He has the personality and skills to be an important player on the pitch.”

He added: “The team created enough chances to score a goal. Yes, it came from a set-piece but it could have arrived in other moments.”

Chances were scarce until Hogg struck and Millwall were denied a penalty right at the death when Ryan Leonard’s shot was blocked by Harry Toffolo. Rowett and his players screamed for a spot-kick but referee Geoff Eltringham was unmoved.

Rowett said: “Geoff didn’t feel it was enough for a penalty.

“I have watched it back on numerous occasions – Lennie has a shot and Toffolo turns his back and gets both his hands up to deflect the ball wide.

“I’ll let people decide when they see it.” Rowett added: “A big side likes us certainly pride ourselves on our set-pieces in a division where they are so important.

“Hogg getting a free header in the six-yard box clearly shouldn’t happen.”
