Preston on the Riis

- By LINDSAY SUTTON at Deepdale

EMIL RIIS is fast turning into Deepdale’s favourite Great Dane after his double strike ended Preston’s poor run of results.

The Dane celebrated signing an extra year on his deal as he hit two first-half strikes to take his season’s tally to 11 in 19 outings.

Preston boss Frankie

Mcavoy was relieved that his side’s run of one win in their last nine league outings was finally ended.

He admitted: “I’m delighted to get the win. Some people think his first goal was a cross, but it was no fluke. Emil does that regularly in training.

“His second goal was crucial.”

Riis’s first strike was a long-range rising drive that flashed across the penalty box and into the goal.

His second was a penalty in added-on time at the end of the first half.

Luton skipper Sonny Bradley brought down Ali Mccann in the box. Up stepped

Riis to hit the spot-kick hard and low into the net.

Hatters’ boss Nathan Jones freely admitted: “That’s as poor as we have been all season.

“We haven’t been in such a losing battle for a long time. I could say we were inept, but credit to Preston for pushing us so hard.”
