6 NOVEMBER Barack Obama was re-elected as US president.

The 44th president and the first African-american to hold office, the Democrat leader won a second term by beating Republican Mitt Romney.

During his time in the Oval Office, Obama helped make health insurance more widely available, prioritised climate change policies and prevented the deportation of people who were brought to the US illegally as children. His eight years in power ended on 20 January 2017.
