‘No telling how many victims’

Mark Williamsthomas, ex-cop who exposed Jimmy Savile

FOR 43 years the evil acts carried out by family man David Fuller were known only to him.

Evading capture for murder meant he grew in confidence and seeking out victims was easy as a hospital electrician.

But it is only by luck and his arrogance that police found a record of sexual offending as far back as 2008 at two Kent sites because he kept “trophies”.

The fallout of my exposure of Jimmy Savile in 2012 led to 32 Hospitals making reviews. But it is clear lessons were not learnt.

In 2015, Fuller was made to have criminal record checks and his employers learned he had hidden burglary convictions. He should have been sacked yet he was kept on with unfettered access in the hospital. How?

Yes, Savile all over again.

Trophies

Crimes of necrophilia are rare, less than 1% of sexual homicides. Post-savile, the review urged reduced access to mortuaries, yet this was clearly not the case at these Kent sites.

When Fuller killed Wendy Knell and Caroline Pierce, he took trophies, as with all his victims. This brings considerable risk as it’s a forensic link.

So why take such a risk? I have no doubt Fuller kept them so he could relive his attacks and in some cases watch footage again, getting further perverse gratification.

At his trial he pleaded guilty. My experience tells me people like Fuller only admit things when they know it could help cover for other crimes.

I have no doubt he has abused many more victims, his offending will be far wider than hospital mortuaries. In fact, given we have 2,600 unsolved murders in the UK, I say with some confidence he killed again after 1987.
