MITRO’S AT FUL FORCE

Aleksandar keeps the run going

- By JON WEST at the Weston Homes Stadium

ALEKSANDAR MITROVIC kept up his hot scoring streak as as Fulham won their sixth game on the trot.

The Serb plundered his 10th goal in just six games to take his season’s tally to 20.

Marco Silva’s side, who are second, needed keeper Marek Rodak to hold off a resilient Peterborough side however.

The Slovakian international pulled off a late stop to deny Jonson Clarke-harris – and rack up a fifth straight clean sheet.

Boss Silva said: “These are fantastic numbers for us. The key for our win was that we never lost patience.

“We deserved the three points because we were the best team from start to the end, the team that wanted to win.”

Fulham were strangely subdued in an opening half that saw the hosts come close to scoring.

Clarke-harris, starting for the first time since serving a ban for historical homophobic social media posts, hit the top of a post just after the half-hour mark.

Rodak made a smart stop with his legs soon after to deny Sammie Szmodics.

And he was needed to bat away Joe Ward’s free-kick as Posh continued to defy the odds.

The second period was a different story, however, as Fulham moved through the gears.

Posh almost gave them a helping hand in the 52nd minute when keeper Dai Cornell shanked a clearance to Bobby Decordova-reid.

Mitrovic was instantly lined up for a shot that Cornell did well to parry.

Decordova-reid set up Mitrovic once more for a powerful effort on the turn but again Cornell was equal to it, with Jean Michael Seri heading across goal.

A goal was coming and Mitrovic was never going to miss when Neeskens Kebano crossed for the striker to nod home from four yards in the 74th minute.

There was still time for a Posh chance however and Fulham had Rodak to thank for tipping Clarke-harris’s shot on to a post.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson was annoyed to lose. He said: “It’s a rubbish result. We shouldn’t have lost the game. It’s probably as disappointed as I’ve been all season because it was there to be won.

“You can’t give the leading goalscorer in the country a free header from four yards. He’s not missing,” added Ferguson.
