It’s Hull of a relief

- By ROSS HEPPENSTALL at Oakwell

GRANT MCCANN could not hide his delight after Hull claimed their first away win and away goals since the opening day of the season.

The Tigers thumped Preston 4-1 at Deepdale on August 7 but had known little but misery on the road since then.

Yet George Honeyman scored and created another for Keane Lewispotter (above) to lift Mccann’s men above fellow strugglers Barnsley and seal a potentially priceless win.

After City ended a five-match losing streak, ex-tykes midfielder Mccann said: “It’s a big win given the positions of the teams in the league.

“But we’ve always had a good togetherness and unity in the group.

“We could have had more goals – three or four – so it was really pleasing to see the guys running and fighting for each other.

“It’s a very tough place to come and I’ve played here, but I thought we were excellent.”

Honeyman put the Tigers ahead in the 33rd minute by slotting home the rebound after Tykes keeper Brad Collins made a fine save.

Hull sealed only their third Championship win of the season in the 75th minute when Honeyman found Lewis-potter and he rifled home.

Barnsley caretaker boss Joseph Laumann said: “It was a big, big disappointment and we missed an opportunity to take a big step forward.

“We need to refresh, regroup and start moving forward again.

“I’m 100 per cent sure that we have enough quality in the squad to not be at the bottom of the league.”
