JOHNNIE JACKSON admitted relief after Charlton eventually ran out winners over non-league Havant and Waterlooville.
All four goals were scored in the final 17 minutes after the National League South side had frustrated their League One hosts.
Academy product Mason Burstow was among the scorers and caretaker boss Jackson was pleased at both his contribution and the rest of his side.
He said: “I was pretty relieved when that first goal went in, you’re quite confident after that we can get more.
“The longer it goes on, at 0-0 they’re only one chance away for putting you under real pressure.
“For young Mason to come
on and get a goal rounded it off. After a lacklustre first half, Charlton came out strongly after the break, and Corey Blacketttaylor drove his 53rd minute effort just over the crossbar.
Havant suffered a blow when defender Sam Magri was stretchered off just after the hour mark with a serious knee injury.
The game finally turned in a six minute spell, after home keeper Stephen Henderson saved from Jake Mccarthy on 69 minutes.
Charlton took the lead three minutes later. Charlie Kirk found space down the left flank, to cross for an unmarked Josh Davison to head home.
The tie was sealed when Jayden Stockley converted from the spot on 75 minutes after Jamie Collins upended Elliot Lee.
Injury-hit Havant put goalkeeper Charlie Searle on as an outfield player, but they could not prevent Stockley (left) adding a second, before Burstow netted in injury-time.
Hawks boss Paul Doswell said: “I’m incredibly proud of the performance, at 73 minutes and goalless we were relatively comfortable.
“We just lost our shape for their goal, it was the first time we let the cross come in to the box, and we got punished. I was disappointed with the second – we had 17 minutes of despair.”
