A FAB INSIGHT INTO LIFE OF A LEGEND

-

face WATCHING Paul Mccartney’s horrified

his as members of the public murdered songs in a TV vox pop was a joy.

The The The Beatles megastar got the ‘At ‘At BBC’ treatment on BBC2 last night, and it was an wonderful collection of clips, performances and interviews. Alongside

tracks like Band on the

Jet, Coming Up and Live and Let Die, Run,

he were excellent insights. Did you know played every instrument on his solo classic Maybe I’m Amazed?

We also saw rare backstage footage from music studios and an interview with diehard Beatles fan

Bob Mortimer. A glorious reminder that after Paul’s Fab Four career, r,

the hits kept on coming.

IF you can stomach Miriam Margolyes’s unique brand of toomuch-information humour, then her latest project is a riot.

It’s hard to imagine anyone can hold their own against her, but Alan Cumming is a worthy sparring partner. Who knows whether he

was brought in to push 80-year-old Miriam’s wheelchair or soften her rough edges, but their chemistry fizzes. He batted back Miriam’s fruity innuendo like a pro. Miriam And Alan:

Lost In Scotland, on C4 on Tuesdays, sees the two actors explore their Scottish roots in a campervan.

Some scenes fell flat – such as the unopened front door of Miriam’s childhood home and an awkward encounter with a passer-by – but others, such as Alan’s retelling of painful childhood abuse, were emotional.

Running through it is a lot of humour, and Alan’s presentation of a “lusty” personalised tartan to Miriam, sums it all up. A bonnie tour de force.
