Guardiola: Time the enemy for Ralf with Reds

PEP GUARDIOLA has warned Ralf Rangnick not to expect time as he looks to turn things around at Manchester United.

The 63-year-old coach is set to take charge at Old Trafford on an interim basis next week, and will remain in the dugout until he steps into a consultancy role in the summer.

The hope is that Rangnick will improve United’s fortunes before a permanent manager is appointed, but Guardiola says it can be unwise to expect such a big short-term impact.

Asked about the difficulty of adapting to the Premier League, the Spaniard (left) said: “I had an idea when I came here but the most difficult was the first season.

“The people want results, want success and

it’s impossible, you need time. And even when you do have time, it’s not real.

“For the success to be something consistent, you need time. Everything you achieve without effort, don’t give too much credit, you won’t get the same stability for a long time, that’s for sure.

“The only problem is we don’t have time, you have to win immediately for the pressure. I wouldn’t say from the media, from the club itself – the owners want the success, they want it to be

sustainable, to reach the Champions League or whatever.

“But we don’t have time. Unfortunately it’s like this, you have to accept it and reduce the time to make it possible.”

With 10 domestic trophies at Manchester City, there is no question Guardiola has adapted to the English game since a tricky first season.

But what about his dream of taking on a new challenge at international level?

Asked about those plans, he replied: “I don’t think about that, honestly. I said many times, when we finish here, it would be a pleasure to be at a World Cup, Euro cup, but I know it’s not easy. “Normally there are a few positions.

“It’s a difficult thing to happen. But if it doesn’t happen, I will train the clubs and it won’t be a problem.”
