SKIPP: I WANT MORE FROM SPURS

- By Tom Hopkinson

OLIVER SKIPP has challenged his Tottenham team-mates not to make the same mistake thrice against Chelsea.

Spurs were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by their London rivals and, in both legs of the semi-final, midfielder Skipp was disappointed that his side didn’t get out of the traps quickly.

He said: “In both games we started quite poorly, we allowed them to get too comfortable. In both games we improved massively in the second half and we have to try to make sure we put in that performance in both halves.

“They’re a top team so we know we’re going to have to be on our game.

Freedom

“We need to be all the things you need to be in these types of games.

“We need to do the basics well and to make sure that we match their intensity.

“But we also need to play with the freedom that allows our creative players to do what they can do. If you look at our front line, if we give them the service, they can really hurt the opposition.”

Victory for Tottenham will make the battle for third place even more compelling given they go into this game eight points behind Chelsea but with four games in hand.

Skipp added: “There are so many teams who have played three or four more games, or you’ve played more than others, so the league table is not really a true indication at the moment. But we will be looking at each game to try to climb up that table, to push on in the second half of the season, because we are really capable of doing that.”

After today’s visit to Chelsea, Spurs have three home games in quick succession – against Brighton in the FA Cup and then Southampton and Wolves in the Premier League.

After that comes a trip to Manchester City.
