VONN FOLLOWS IN FAMILY WAY

Cincinnati Bengals

v Los Angeles Rams Next Sunday, 11.30pm

VONN BELL credits his parents for the mental attitude he hopes will finally lead the Cincinnati Bengals to their first Super Bowl win.

The Bengals went 30 years without a playoff victory but have clocked up three in the past month to book a place in next Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Cincinnati made two Super Bowl appearances in the 1980s, both against San Francisco, and both ending in defeat.

Now the players from the Queen City have a chance to be crowned kings of the NFL and Bell knows where his drive to succeed started.

The hard-hitting defender said: “It really goes to my parents and the work ethic they instilled in me, always to be a grinder and how to figure out things and be the first at things. Always to be relentless.

“Whatever you want, go get it but you’ve got to work for it. That’s how I was raised.

“They were so competitive that if I had a great game, they were always telling me that’s not good enough.

“There’s always that mindset I have that was instilled in me – always working to what is the next mission. It’s a huge shout out to them for becoming the man I am today.”

Bell (above) made the overtime interception last week that helped to stun the Super Bowl favourites Kansas City Chiefs and propel the Bengals into the big game.

On a team that is being made famous by quarterback Joe Burrow, Bell, 27, has no concerns about not enough credit for a defence that is making the difference.

He said: “We don’t worry about what’s outside, we just worry about what’s inside here.

“We’re going to show up, do our job and play relentlessly. We want to keep the momentum rolling into this game.”
