RODGERS: THE ONLY WAY IS UP

- Neil Moxley

BRENDAN RODGERS says he can not plan his future at Leicester City beyond today.

The Foxes’ chief says he is taking nothing for granted at the King Power Stadium as he looks to finish the club’s campaign on a high.

Rodgers was installed as favourite for the Premier League sack race last week after voicing criticism of his players.

But the reality is that the club remains behind him and after today’s trip to Molineux, Leicester have just four of their final fixtures against sides in the top half of the Premier League table.

That gives them the chance to markedly improve their finishing position – with merit money for doing so welcome after the club announced a £33.1million loss this week.

Rodgers said: “I cannot afford to look at what might or might not happen to the Premier League table – I might not be here! Yes, I’m joking about it – but I’m serious as well.

“That’s definitely the case. As you gain more experience in the game, you accept it. You really have just to focus on the next game. It’s true.

“Of course, you do have to look forward.

“We are in the process of finalising some pre-season stuff – particularly with the World Cup later in the year – you have to put some plans into place for that, too.

“But I’m not looking at where we might or might not finish – too much can happen for me to look at that.”

A horrendous run of injuries has forced his hand. He has been without two first-choice centre-backs in Wesley Fofana and Jonny Evans all season.

He said: “We’ve not been able to catch a break. It’s been like that for a bit. At times last season, we had a really young back four.

“I will always give it my best. If it’s not enough, that’s okay. I’ll move on, recover and go again. But I love being here.”
