GET TUCH OF CLASS, MAN UTD
I’M a huge fan of the idea of Mauricio Pochettino getting the Manchester United job.
But if there is a chance for United to get Thomas Tuchel from Chelsea this summer, they have to take it.
At Chelsea, Tuchel has produced a cracking, expansive team that also keep clean sheets – and that is exactly what Manchester United need.
He works well with young players, he’s defensively sound and offensively sound – and he is doing it in the here and now in the Premier League with a club which has won everything there is to win.
As the old saying goes, “Never look a gift horse in the mouth”, so I’d be stunned if United hadn’t already put in a phone call to his representatives amid the turmoil at Stamford Bridge.
The new owner may make Tuchel (left) such an offer and settle things down so well that he decides to stay at Chelsea.
But if there’s a conversation to be had, it needs having because he’s on par with Poch – and would be a much better option than Erik ten Hag.
I LIKE the England call-ups for Crystal Palace pair Marc Guehi and Conor Gallagher – I want to see the latter, in particular, getting game time because he has been that good this season that he could carve out a World Cup niche for himself. As for Guehi, he could come in and be a future version of Conor Coady or Tyrone Mings. With Guehi and Gallagher, you’ll get that extra little bit of hunger from players saying, “This isn’t
as I expected it would be if I was at Manchester United”. It’s another reminder that Gareth Southgate is always looking at the next major
tournament cycle.
