No Poshover for Warburton

- By HECTOR NUNNS

QPR boss Mark Warburton says his stuttering promotion-chasers should remember what genuine pressure feels like.

The west London side have seen other teams bunching up behind them after a run of just two wins in nine Championship games.

Today they face rock-bottom Posh, who would be miles adrift of safety but for points deductions elsewhere.

But Warburton (right) is very focused and admitted: “It is an important game, there is no doubt about that – even if they all are at this stage of the season. Points are priceless, you’d like to go into the break with a good win.

“There will be pressure on us, and also pressure on Peterborough. The mindset is to go out and win the game of football, but there is no lack of respect or preparation.

“And talk about pressure… where would you rather be?

“Peterborough will be scrapping for their lives. Every club knows what relegation can mean with pay cuts and staff losing jobs. So we are fortunate to be fighting for a play-off place, rather than fighting for our lives at the bottom.

“The fans will expect us to win the game – and we have to make our home more of a fortress, be brave and ruthless in both boxes.

“They will come here scrapping for their lives and survival and thinking, ‘If we can get a run together, there could be a way out of this’. And we have to be wary of that.

“There are a lot of teams now battling to get in the play-offs and it must be incredibly exciting for the neutral – it is a great league. Just look at the games and the fixtures right to the last day of the season. They come thick and fast and points will be dropped right to the last kick of the season.

“What number gets you into the play-offs now I really don’t know yet.

“There are too many twists and turns to come.

“The wins have been harder to come by of late... but the margins are just so tight.”
