Tammy: I’ll help Harry unseat Roo

- Steve Bates

TAMMY ABRAHAM has vowed to help Harry Kane become England’s all-time greatest goalscorer – even though he’s after the Tottenham man’s job.

Spurs and England star Kane is just five goals away from taking that crown off Wayne Rooney who is currently the top Three Lions scorer with 53.

But while Roma star Abraham is happy to tee-up golf fanatic Kane against Germany in Munich on Tuesday ultimately, he wants that shirt for himself.

Former Chelsea star Abraham said: “I think for every player that’s the right mentality – being positive.

“We are all buzzing for Harry, we want him to smash the record and we’re always here to support him.

“Whenever I’m given a chance if I’m on a pitch with him, I’ll try and help him get to his targets.

“But for me, it’s all about getting an opportunity, grabbing it with two hands and showing what you’re made of.”

Abraham is certainly doing that under Jose Mourinho, after a goal-filled debut Serie A season following his £34million move from Stamford Bridge last summer.

It was a brave switch by the 24-yearold star who’d been at Chelsea since he was seven. But it’s already paid off – with 27 club goals and a winner’s medal in the Europa Conference League

(below), with Mourinho’s stars beating Feyenoord in the final last month.

“Rome has been great. One and off the pitch, life’s been good,” said Abraham. “I’d never even been there on holiday.

But it’s been amazing learning about the history, culture and style of living.

“I lived in London my whole life, so it’s nice to embrace something different – even learning Italian!

“It’s so hard to learn and you can get lazy at times and can’t be bothered.

“But I’ve dedicated my mind towards learning a different language while I’m away, because it’s something you can take with you throughout your life.

“Jose has walked in on me when I’ve been doing Italian lessons – and now he thinks I’m an expert. In fact, he now only speaks Italian to me!

“He’s very good at player management. Even now, I’m still getting messages from him asking how camp is going, how my family are, what holidays I’ve planned.”

It is clear Abraham believes his Italian gamble has accelerated his career.

He added: “I’ve gone to Italy and had to mature quicker. A lot of people probably questioned it, but for me it was about going out there to prove myself again, to shine, to spread my wings. And that’s what I’ve been doing.”
