PRICY PETROL TO FUEL FOOD HIKES
SHOPPERS will be facing higher prices if the cost of fuel keeps going up, haulage bosses fear.
They say the eye-watering rises in diesel are likely to feed through to grocery bills.
It comes as Britain also faces the highest level of inflation for 40 years.
The Road Haulage Association says it now costs £20,000 more than a year ago to fill a truck. Spokesman Rod Mckenzie said: “For haulage firms, a third of their total costs are fuel. These extra costs will be passed on to supermarket shoppers.”
The RHA wants the Government to slash fuel duty and give lorry firms a rebate of 15p per litre.
Andrew Opie, of the British Retail Consortium, said: “High petrol costs are
yet another pressure.”
