Nesbitt in unfair cop

- Karen Rockett

ACTOR James Nesbitt would love to star in a musical rom-com but fears he is destined to play brooding detectives for ever.

The 57-year-old stars in Channel 4 crime thriller Suspect next Sunday as yet another moody cop.

Nesbitt, who rose to fame 25 years ago in comedydrama Cold Feet, said: “When I played undercover officer Tommy Murphy in Murphy’s Law in 2001, it must have planted a seed in the mind of directors.

“In Lucky Man, I played a detective with a gambling addiction. Then in Stay Close I was an optimistic cop unable to let go of a missing persons case.”

Nesbitt told Weekend magazine: “A funny musical rom-com would be great.

“I’m just never cast in these sort of things.”
