Boy killed trying to shield his mum
A TEENAGER murdered while defending his mother from a knifeman has been named as
Jakub Szymanski.
The 15-year-old was praised as “a protector who fought for his family” after stepping in to stop the “ferocious attack” in Manchester on
Thursday evening.
A 44-year-old man from the city was arrested 250 miles away in Kent on suspicion of murder on Friday night.
Jakub’s mum Katarzyna Bastek, who is believed to be in her 40s, is recovering from serious injuries in hospital.
A person close to Jakub, who is believed to be one of four brothers, said: “There’s not a chance that boy isn’t a hero. Everyone here knew him for being kind and respectful.
“He was quiet but he was a protector. He fought for his family. He was an amazing person, he was a hero and he should be remembered as one.”
Forensic teams were pictured working at the crime scene in Miles Platting yesterday morning while a police cordon remained in place.
