School axe for 15 kids

A VILLAGE school with just 15 pupils will close its doors at the end of this term after 157 years.

Chittlehampton C of E primary near South Molton, Devon, had 40 children five years ago but the county council now considers it educationally and financially unsustainable.

Cllr Andrew Leadbetter said: “It’s very sad but the school is unviable.”

Pupils will go to primaries in nearby villages and seven staff face redundancy or moves to other schools.
