CAN someone please explain Gareth Southgate’s obsession with Mason Mount?

The Chelsea man (below) should have been taken off far sooner in the European Championship Final against Italy last year.

And it was a similar story in midweek against Germany.

Mount looks tired and the substitution of him should have come far sooner than it did.

England’s ball retention was poor and it improved immediately after Jack Grealish was introduced.

Southgate hasn’t got them all wrong, not by a long stretch, but for some reason he has a blind spot as far as the midfielder is concerned.
