Arsenal keen on Asensio

- By Tom Hopkinson

ARSENAL are one of several clubs now monitoring Marco Asensio’s situation at

Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder’s future is set to be resolved in the coming week with Real chiefs wanting an answer from him by June 20.

The European champions have offered Asensio (top) a contract extension, with his current deal running out in a year’s time.

However, the terms are not matching the player’s demands and there is a belief at the Bernabeu that he wants to move on by this time next year as a free agent.

Real do not want to lose him for nothing, though, and they will try to sell him this summer if a new deal isn’t agreed.

Tottenham and AC Milan have both been offered the player.

But now Arsenal have entered the mix having contacted Asensio’s representatives to seek answers about his and Real’s demands.

The Gunners’ lack of Champions League football is not ideal for the Spaniard, although not a deal-breaker.

The issue for Real is that they do not want to break the bank for a player who is by no means a regular in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting line-up.

Asensio wants guarantees from his suitors that he would get regular game time before he makes any decision.

Manchester United have enquired about Asensio’s situation as well but only informally and have not followed up on their interest.
