2018 Stephen Hawking’s ashes were interred at Westminster Abbey.
As one of the world’s leading physicists, Professor Hawking’s remains were laid to rest beneath a stone at Westminster Abbey between those of Charles Darwin and Sir Isaac Newton.
Famous names including actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who played the physicist in Hawking, and Astronomer Royal Baron Rees paid tribute to the giant of science who defied the odds for 55 years after being diagnosed with degenerative disorder amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He died aged 76, leaving behind an incredible legacy to the world of science.
