ERIKSEN NOT MAN FOR UTD..

-

TOP quality players want to play at top quality clubs, so I get that Christian Eriksen has a big choice to make over staying at Brentford or joining one of his other suitors.

Of the offers we know about, the Manchester United one intrigues me the most given the size difference between them and the Bees.

Two of my old sides, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, were big clubs – but I can tell you that being at Liverpool was completely different in terms of expectation.

You have to be switched on 24/7 and United is the only other club in the country where it’s the same.

If Eriksen (below) does end up joining United then the club and its fans must ensure he is not subjected to the same kind of stuff that has been thrown at a lot of their players these past three years.

Because while I’m sure he is monitoring everything in his mind and body, he will have to ask himself whether or not all the other things which come on top of playing at

United would be a little too much to cope with after the trauma he’s suffered.

If he does want to join a bigger club than

Brentford, perhaps he’d be better served looking at a Villa, Wolves or

West Ham.

THE international get-together was bad for England and they need to pull their fingers out... but I put a lot of what we saw down to fatigue.

And I’m behind Gareth Southgate (below) because, perhaps more than any other England boss in my lifetime, he has done what he says on the tin. He has created a national team which is competitive, at times exciting, and a good place for players to express themselves.
