WHEN HARRY MET ELLEN...

- ENGLAND V AUSTRIA Neil Moxley JULY 6 AT OLD TRAFFORD

WHEN Harry met Ellen what did they talk about?

Goals, of course.

The FA arranged for phenomenal England sharpshooters Harry Kane and Ellen White to get together and compare notes.

This is a duo that between them has clobbered a century of goals for their country, 50 each so far.

All-time England women’s recordholder White, who also boasts half a dozen international goals for Team GB, goes into the European Championship next month hoping to add to the

Golden Boot she won at the World Cup in France three years ago.

She said: “It was great to have a conversation with Harry.

“We talked about our debuts, what he likes to do in training, but then also looking at his movement and the way he scores goals.

“We looked back together on our goals, which was just a lovely thing to do. We spent about 15 minutes together.

“I think we are very similar in as much as we love training – but we want to do the shooting drills at the end.

“That’s where the conversation went. It was more about training. ‘Always in the corners’ – because that’s the most difficult place for keepers to get to.

“It’s about maintaining those standards out on the pitch that you have set in training.

“I’m always asking about more shooting – then every one else jumps in and wants to do the same – and it’s the same with Harry.

“We love that part of training, the repetition of shooting. For strikers, it’s seeing the ball hit the net. “And we share a love of that.”

White is again likely to be leading the line for the Lionesses when their Euros gets underway on July 6 against Austria at Old Trafford.

The Manchester City striker is 33 and approaching the twilight of her career – but she remains the favoured choice of England boss Sarina Wiegman.

The Dutch coach arrived in post last September having led her own country to Euros glory five years ago.

White said: “She’s set out her stall as to the way we want to play.

“Sarina is always talking about her experience and how she wants her team to play and be the best-prepared team.

“She does really encourage that level of understanding of what’s right.

“Once we walk over that white line we need to figure out stuff for ourselves – and do it quickly. We can’t just wait until half-time.

“Obviously, there’s communication from the sideline but she has instilled confidence in every player to make those decisions.

“And we have grown since

September. We have been building a sense of family. As a squad, there is a depth now. Not just internationally, but through the experience of playing in the Champions League and cup finals.

“I’m surrounded by very talented players who can put the ball in front of me so I can score. In prior years I wanted to be involved and was just running around.

“But a striker that scores goals must be in front of goal – and I want to improve on that.”

We are both very similar in as much as we both love training but we want to do the shooting drills at the end
