SUNNY DELIGHT

-

NEVER mind the Balearics, get ready to sizzle on Blighty’s beaches.

Sunseekers packed resorts like Weymouth, pictured below, yesterday as the UK braced for a heatwave forecast to hit up to 33C – putting 32C Majorca, where Love Island is filmed, in the shade.

This year is set to be the hottest on record – with six warmer-than-normal months in a row followed by a sweltering second half of summer.

Brian Gaze, forecaster for The Weather Outlook, said: “It looks like a ‘Spanish summer’ at times for Britain this year, with heat until September.”

The Met Office agreed, saying: “We are looking at a spell of settled weather.

“We expect temperatures to rise to the low-30s at the start of the week. They may creep up to the mid-30s. On

Wednesday and Thursday it will feel fresher, then beyond that it will pick up again.”

The Health Security Agency and the Met Office urged people to take care as they issued heat-health alerts for most of the country from tomorrow until Friday.

The hottest areas – in the south and East Anglia – should see temperatures in the early 30s, while northern England and parts of Scotland are predicted to hit 27C.

The agency’s Dr Agostinho Sousa said: “It is important to keep yourself hydrated and to find shade where possible when UV rays are strongest, between 11am and 3pm.

“If you have vulnerable family, friends and neighbours, make sure they are aware of how they can keep themselves protected from the warm weather.”

The hottest day of the year so far was June 17, which hit 32.7C.
