MARCUS A REEL STAR

Man Utd striker hooked on fishing

MANCHESTER United idol Marcus Rashford hopes for catch of the day after taking up angling.

The England hotshot and brother Dwaine were two men in a boat as they enjoyed a fishing trip in the Lake District.

Dwaine, part of the star’s management team, posted photos on social media showing Rashford falling hook, line and sinker for the popular pastime.

Soon after the fun trip, the star had to swap fishing tackle for football tackles in United’s preseason friendlies around the globe.

Dwaine posted: “Let’s see who catches one first.” He later shared snaps of him and Rashford in their motorboat with their haul – a solitary fish photographed on the deck of the craft.

The striker, 24, will be hoping to lure new Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag into giving him plenty of starts next season.

Bite

Last season he netted just five times in 32 games – his worst return since breaking into United’s first team. And he was dropped from the England squad by boss Gareth Southgate.

Rashford, a campaigner against racism, homelessness and child hunger, got engaged to long-term girlfriend Lucia Loi in May.

He also spent time away on holiday in California.

The United star’s relaxing break contrasts with other footballers’ extravagant holidays.

Man City star Jack Grealish, 26, was pictured celebrating his title win in both Ibiza and Las Vegas.

Marcus’s United teammate Harry Maguire, 29, tied the knot with childhood sweetheart Fern Hawkins, 27, in a lavish ceremony in the South of France.

And Cristiano Ronaldo’s partner Georgina Rodriguez shared pictures of the loved-up couple on their family holiday in Majorca, including days out on a £5.5million luxury yacht.

Rashford is not the first famous footballer to pick up a rod.

Euro 96 England heroes midfielder Paul Gascoigne and goalkeeper David Seaman love heading to the riverbank together.

While aces like Ronaldo, David Beckham and Sergio Aguero have had a go, too. Three Lions legend John Terry is such a fan he has dug a fishing lake in his garden.

And if Rashford cannot get ten Hag to bite next season, at least the striker will be able to hit the back of the fishing net.
