A LAW UNTO THEMSELVES
Stephen Graham and Daniel Mays return as comedy cops in a third series of Code 404 – and this time a killer’s on the loose
Crimefighters DI Carver and DI Major have a tricky case to crack in the third series of police comedy Code 404. Carver (Stephen Graham) and Major (Daniel Mays) are still on limited duties pending an investigation into their previous outing, in which they probed reports of a dangerous new drug used in an underground martial arts fight ring.
Eager to get back to work, they find themselves at an all-time low. So when they learn that one of their own has been murdered, they become hell-bent on catching the killer. “I say to anyone who hasn’t seen Code 404 it’s a mix between Robocop Some Mothers Do ’Ave ’Em,” realise they’re dealing with a serial killer who has them in their sights.
It’s more important than ever that they pull together but as tensions rise, cracks show in their friendship. Forensic psychologist Professor Mcallister (Vinette Robinson) is brought in and she helps them edge closer to cracking the case. But the killer is still managing to elude them.
Stephen and Daniel are as dynamic on screen as they are off it, too. Daniel says of working with his pal, “It’s great to pin him down as he works so much and we have such a blast together.
He’s a dear friend and the fact we get to play around for six weeks to bring this show to life is an absolute joy.
“It’s not just Stephen, we’ve got Anna Maxwell Martin and a whole host of new actors in the third season.”
As the investigation continues, Carver and Mcallister grow closer and end up mixing work with their personal lives, leaving Major feeling rejected. And to add to Major’s downward spiral, it emerges spyware has been implanted into his artificial intelligence.
He soon uncovers the identity of his hacker – ex-lover and corrupt former
Police Commissioner Helen Chalmers (Tracy-ann Oberman).
He decides to keep it a secret and uses Chalmers for help on the case. However, Major starts to feel up against it – and begins to fall apart under the pressure.
Meanwhile, there’s a breakthrough when the serial killer accidentally leaves a witness to their latest crime.
But then a shocking revelation comes to light – the murderer is someone working within the Special Investigations Unit. Can Carver and Major flush out the dodgy copper?
