Robbie so close against his old club but Hull hold firm

- PRESTON By MIKE WHALLEY

HULL boss Shota Arveladze believes he still needs to strengthen his squad after they escaped from Preston with a point.

The Georgian has already made eight permanent signings this summer, thanks to the funding being poured in by Turkish TV mogul owner Acun Ilicali.

But Hull were grateful for a draw at Deepdale, with keeper Matt Ingram making two vital saves from North End’s Tottenham loanee striker Troy Parrott with former Hull ace Robbie Brady hitting the post.

Arveladze said: “We definitely need to strengthen. I’ve been in this business a long time, and sometimes you get what you need and sometimes you don’t. But we will work on it and everybody understands this.

“In the Championship, you need a psychological readiness to go and go again. And that was a good positive thing that we stayed in the game and came away with a point.”

Brady – who spent four years at Hull – is rebuilding his career at Preston after an injury-hit year with Bournemouth. The Republic of Ireland wing-back, 30, almost broke a 20-month goal duck when his deflected long-range shot struck the outside of a post early in the second half.

North End have now drawn their opening two league games 0-0 and boss Ryan Lowe said: “We should have won the two games.

“The clean sheets are good but the football we’ve played has been fantastic.”
