Baggies ace can provide a Swift return to the top flight

-

STEVE BRUCE says Baggies’ fans are in for a treat this season – because of a player who has ‘Premier League quality written all over him.’

West Brom’s boss was gushing in his praise for summer signing John Swift, who will take a bow at The Hawthorns tomorrow night.

Swift, 26, joined on a Bosman from Reading and Bruce says the former Chelsea trainee has enough time to make a name for himself – not just in the Championship but also among the elite.

He said: “John may have got lost in Chelsea’s system. He can count himself very unlucky. But as soon as

I walked into the place, I said, ‘Right, what are we going to do?’

The answer was, ‘Let’s get into the Bosmans’ – the standout two were the two we got – John Swift and Jed Wallace.

“John’s a real talent. He has been at the top end of the Championship for a long time.

“Physically, you may not think he puts in the yardage – but he does. His stats are very high.

“He covers the ground, scores a goal, makes a goal.

“Look at the goals and assists and he was up there in a team that was struggling, he was the stand-out performer.

“It was one of those no-brainers, I have to tell you. Like I say, he can count himself unlucky he’s not had a chance in the Premier League.

“Some need the opportunity and I hope we can take him there and he can play in there.

“He has the ability to do so. He’s got Premier League quality written all over him.

“I think the fans will see that. They saw glimpses last week. But he will get them out of their seats, I absolutely believe that.”
