TAKE A CHANCE

No bored games for Liam at this level

-

INTERIM Derby boss Liam Rosenior is still looking for the positives after his side botched a hatful of chances in their first defeat of the season at Charlton.

The Rams should have been out of sight and coasting to victory with a James Collins double – but the summer recruit from Cardiff City fluffed his lines twice.

Collins was first denied one-on-one by Addicks goalkeeper Joe Wollacott after being played in by Tom Barkhuizen, and in first-half injury time hit the post when he was through again one-on-one.

Charlton got themselves ahead when a second-half counter attack ended in a routine tap-in for Corey Blackett-taylor.

Rosenior (right) said: “It would have been tough to take had we drawn the game, but to lose to a counter attack when we had so much control, so much dominance and created so many chances, is a bitter pill to swallow.

“There are positive signs. The players got a good gauge of what this league is about. If you don’t take your chances and don’t keep the back door shut with all of your dominance then you can get punished, and we did that today.

“Hopefully that is a lesson which I have learnt, the players have learnt and we now move forward, making sure the performance levels stay the same, but we get the right result at the end of it.

“I’m always a believer in the process and when you get that right over 46 games, you will normally end up where you deserve to be.

“It is one of those days today, as frustrating as it is, but I need the players to believe in what we do, I need the fans to see and believe in what we do and see the amount of chances we created today.” Blackett-taylor netted after Charlie Kirk first fed Albie Morgan, whose shot was parried by Derby keeper Joe Wildsmith.

But the ball fell to the Charlton winger and he tapped in from close range.

Jason Knight also missed a huge chance to grab Derby a point when he headed wide.

Charlton boss Ben Garner said: “I have to thank the fans. They stuck with us and helped us get the points.”
