Geordies top savers

GEORDIES are the biggest savers with 85% having around £7,100 tucked away.

Manchester and London tied for second on 79% and £7,000 with Hull third on 78% and £6,300.

On average, we have just under £5,800 in savings, including in banks, building societies, Premium Bonds, and even stashes of cash “under the mattress”.

But the poll of 2,000 by Moneysupermarket found 26% don’t have a penny to fall back on.

Moneysupermarket’s Jo Thornhill said: “As we face the cost of living crisis, any unexpected financial costs or emergencies could have a devastating impact on many households’ finances.”
