Sam Quek, Paddy Mcguinness and Ugo Monye get set for the latest run of Question Of Sport

-

Following a special Commonwealth Games episode, Question Of Sport returns for its mind-boggling 52nd series this Friday, making it the world’s longest-running sports quiz show. Starting way back in 1970, the first episode featured legendary names including footballer George Best and boxer Henry Cooper. Since then, the show has seen a revolving door of

sports superstars as team captains and contestants.

Last year, the team took on a fresh new look once more, with Sue Barker passing the presenting baton to Paddy Mcguinness, and ex-rugby international Ugo Monye and Olympic hockey star Sam Quek assuming the captain roles.

“I think the strength of the show is the show,” says Ugo, when asked about the quiz’s continued success.

“The personalities are there just to amplify the greatness of that. Regardless of who is host or captain, the show is outstanding. It’s engaging, informative, and at the heart of it, really good fun.”

With Question Of Sport now running for over 50 years, the current team grew up as regular viewers.

“Without exaggeration, I have loved Question Of Sport since I was a kid,” says Sam. “I love quizzes and I love sport, so it is literally the perfect show

for me. Becoming a captain for the show was a dream come true.”

The format has changed over the decades, as have public tastes in sport and entertainment. So to keep this latest series fresh, we’ll see some new games for the captains and their guests.

In this week’s episode, the celebrity competitors include boxer Conor Benn, rugby star Zoe Aldcroft, footballer Andros Townsend and swimming champion Fran Halsall. We can’t wait!
