Too much on MPS’ plates..

-

PARLIAMENT’S restaurants have binned 1,230 metric tonnes of taxpayer-subsidised food in the past six years.

That’s the equivalent of 2.6 million dishes being chucked away by MPS and lords.

The massive waste emerged as charity the Food Foundation revealed a 57% leap between January and April of 7.3 million households skipping meals.

Poverty campaigner Jack Monroe said: “There is no clearer demonstration of the disconnect between those in power in this country and the millions who are struggling to make ends meet every day.”

MPS can feast on sirloin steak and chips for under £12 while salmon tagliatelle and beerbattered cod and chips cost under £6.50.

A spokesman said: “The Commons and Lords catering services produce less food waste than the national average.”
