WE HAVE LOST OUR IDOL
TRAGIC Pop Idol singer Darius Campbell Danesh had “good old-fashioned charm”, a hospice helped by the singer said.
Bosses there told how he paid regular visits to entertain patients and raised tens of thousands of pounds. Darius, even after moving to the US, flew back to lend a hand at the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow.
The heartwarming story came 10 days after Scotland-born Darius, 41, was found dead at a flat in Minnesota.
Rhona M Bailie, chief executive at the hospice, said: “He was a loyal friend to the hospice staff and loved spending time with our patients and singing to them. His relationship was very relaxed, just dropping in when he was in Glasgow.
“He had a very easy way with him, a good old-fashioned charm that is rare these days, an old soul, and someone who had time for everyone.
“We had hilarious moments at ladies’ lunches with girls forming a queue to meet him, he was a charismatic man.
“The world has lost a special person and the hospice will miss him greatly.”
