Red Devils blow away Dragons

Catalans 14 Salford 46

- BY STEVEN BRADY

SALFORD stunned Catalans Dragons in Perpignan with a romp which has blown the race to Old Trafford wide open.

“We were fantastique,” said coach Paul Rowley.

“What we did today was very special and the boys worked so hard for that.

“If we can continue to play this way why can’t we be a serious threat in the play-offs?”

Catalans winger Tom Davies was first to cross in the seventh minute, but Salford hit back with some slick attacking co-ordinated by scrumhalf Marc Sneyd with an elusive 25-metre strike.

Stand-off Brodie Croft and Kallum Watkins were next over for the Red Devils before Davies went in for his second try.

But Catalans could do little more to prevent the visitors from holding on to an 18-8 half-time lead.

Salford went further ahead early in the second half, with Watkins racing 40 metres for his second try, converted by Sneyd for 24-8.

Things got worse for Catalans when Davies scored in the 52nd minute followed by Chris Atkin, Brierley on target again to push Salford 34-8 ahead.

Brierley put the visitors 40 points up before Ben Garcia managed a consolation try for the Dragons with eight minutes left.

Deon Cross finished the scoring with a try in the last minute for the Red Devils.
