Foxes on track for Garner

- Tom Hopkinson

LEICESTER are ready to rival Everton and Southampton for Manchester United midfielder James Garner.

United are willing to sell Garner for around £15million before the close of the transfer window, with the midfielder unlikely to break into Erik ten Hag’s plans at Old Trafford.

Everton and Southampton have both made approaches for Garner as they look to strengthen their midfield options, but Leicester are prepared to enter the race for the England Under-21 international.

Garner impressed Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers when he helped Nottingham Forest beat Leicester in the FA Cup last season and the Northern Irishman sees the midfielder as a potential replacement for the unsettled Youri Tielemans.

Tielemans’ future at Leicester has been the subject of scrutiny this summer with the Belgian in the final year of his contract and unlikely to sign a new deal at the club.

Leicester are bracing themselves for a late move from Arsenal for 25-year-old Tielemans and Rodgers wants to have targets lined up in case they lose the midfielder.
