Three’s definitely not Kompany as Clarets slip again

-

FRUSTRATED Vincent Kompany wants Burnley to learn the lessons after they chucked away two points against Blackpool.

The Clarets raced into a 3-1 half-time lead before two late goals inside three minutes from the battling Seasiders turned the contest on its head.

“The first half was terrific but we lost concentration to concede the goals,” said Kompany.

“We had to stay robust and we were a bit overwhelmed by our own doing.

“We have got to expect moments when things don’t go to plan. We have to take lessons from the game.

“We were not able to recognise how the game shifted in its dynamics.

“We lost our way in the second half and this is what happens.

“It is a hard learning process. We changed our way and it’s for everyone to recognise why we lost our way.”

Burnley got off to a dream start when Josh Brownhill banged home a beauty from distance inside the first three minutes.

Nathan Tella doubled the host’s advantage with a cool finish eight minutes later.

Theo Corbeanu pulled a goal back with a simple finish when Josh Cullen failed to control a shocking pass from Arijanet Muric.

Tella bagged his second with a dinked finish after Jordan Gabriel tripped on 33 minutes.

Josh Bowler had a low free-kick deflected just wide as the visitors started the second half strongly.

The pressure paid off when Shane Lavery slotted home from close range to set up a grandstand finale after 76 minutes.

And the on-song Seasiders were level just two minutes later when

Jerry Yates smashed home from a yard out following a corner.

Yates was denied a dramatic winner by Muric after he burst through on goal in the 80th minute.

Sonny Carey and Ian Maatsen received their marching orders with six minutes to go after the Burnley man lashed out following a rash challenge by his rival.

Blackpool boss Michael Appleton admitted he was disappointed not to take all three points home.

“I think we should have won it, there’s no doubt about it,” he said.

“We need to be better in the early part of the game. It would be easy for me to focus too much on that, it’s something we need to address and we will.

“But the way we responded after we dusted ourselves down was excellent.

“To have to deal with being two goals down and to come back in that way makes me very proud of the boys.

“We created good chances to win the game and there’s frustration in the dressing room.

“We had them on the ropes.”
