Joe cool warns Robins not to flap in Bluebirds scrap

- By HARRY PRATT

BRISTOL CITY midfielder Joe Williams is demanding cool heads for the visit of Cardiff.

The Robins welcome Steve Morison’s Welsh high-flyers today for a high-noon shoot-out at Ashton Gate.

It is sure to be a fiery showdown and Williams believes it is vital that the hosts keep a lid on their tempers while still maintaining an edge.

The former Everton academy product appreciates exactly what a derby means and is relishing his first taste of a Robins-bluebirds scrap.

He said: “I’ve been involved in a few derbies and I love them. I love the atmosphere, the bite in the game.

“I was brought up on derbies with Everton versus Liverpool so they’re massive.

“It’ll be a good atmosphere and crowd this Sunday and we have to keep our emotions in check and not do anything stupid.

“We don’t want stupid sending-offs. We want to be on the front foot – hard but fair. “

The Robins, who picked up their first league win of the season at Luton in midweek, did the double over Cardiff last season.

Williams expects a backlash, adding: “I didn’t play in those games but the atmosphere was unbelievable.

“Cardiff will want to get one back on us this year.”

Bluebirds chief Morison, meanwhile, is reeling after losing new Nigerian defender Jamilu Collins for the campaign with an Achilles injury suffered at West Brom.

Morison, whose side were sixth coming into the weekend, said: “It’s the worst-case scenario.

“The lads will get behind him. We have something else to fight for now.”
