Mikaela’s eye on the PRIZEMARK

-

BY TOM HOPKINSON MIKAELA MAYER is the unashamed Primark Princess plotting to become the undisputed queen of the superfeatherweight division.

The IBF and WBO world champion will put her titles on the line against WBC and IBO belt holder Alycia Baumgardner at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday, on the undercard of Claressa Shields’ clash with Savannah Marshall.

And after popping into her favourite high street store upon returning to England, La-born Mayer is fully focused on dressing down her fellow American.

Mayer said: “I am going to win this fight, first, but I want to hurt her so badly. I want to stop her.

“She’s going to get a little bit of everything.

“When she knocked out Terri Harper, being the champion I am and wanting to be undisputed, I called her out.

“It’s simple maths, one plus one equals two, so I don’t understand why she felt so offended by it.

“She was all, ‘She’s a hater…’ And I was, like, ‘Oh my God, girl, you’re in boxing, this is not high school, I just want your belt so let’s fight’.

“Now she has that shirt where my face is on the poodle and she’s taking the dog for the walk.

“But when she says she’s going to dog-walk me, she doesn’t not know what that means.

“I’m the dog-walker, I’m the one who’s going to press the pace and I don’t think she can hang with my pace.”

Mayer fell in love with Primark when she first visited the UK. She added: “I come from a family of hippies. I don’t own a single designer thing.

“I’ve bought two houses and invested my money but I’m also down for a £5 Primark hat.

“One I bought from there is the best hat I own, I bought two and gave one to my best friend and she’s obsessed with hers, too.”
