Hogg is desperate to get timing right

-

HUDDERSFIELD captain Jonathan Hogg believes it’s “only a matter of time” before last year’s Championship play-off finalists hit form.

The Terriers have endured a torrid start to the season with four losses from their opening six league outings.

They have conceded 10 goals already this season and have failed to find the fine form which nearly saw them promoted to the Premier League last term.

Former midfielder Danny Schofield took over as boss after the shock departure of Carlos Corberan but, apart from beating Stoke City last month, the Terriers have lacked bite and bark.

“There’s always pressure to perform, for any manager,” said Hogg ahead of today’s home clash with Blackpool.

“The manager is always the one who gets the rough end of it. He’s the one who always gets the stick when things are going wrong.

“If the team is not performing it’s not always the manager’s fault, players have to take responsibility.

“I’ll do everything I can for any manager I play for – and certainly I’ll do that for Danny.

“I’m fine with the weight of expectation, I’ll roll with it. It’s a long season and the start hasn’t been great but it’s only a matter of time before we turn things around.”

Schofield signed two defenders on transfer deadline day in a bid to bolster his defence.

Manchester City’s Luke Mbete, 18, joined on a season-long loan and Poland international Michal Helik joined from Barnsley on a three-year deal.

“It does take time, it took time with Carlos,” said Hogg. “In his first season we were towards the bottom of the league.

“And it was only that second year where things started to happen for us.”

Blackpool have a raft of injury concerns.

They also lost star player Josh Bowler to Nottingham Forest on deadline day but new midfielder Callum Wright – signed from Leicester – is available.
