Heck happy to have plotted path through Sander storm

-

PAUL HECKINGBOTTOM insists star man Sander Berge remains fully committed to Sheffield United – despite being denied a big-money move last week.

Club Brugge attempted to sign the Norway midfielder and Liverpool and AC Milan are also thought to be among his admirers.

Yet the Blades hierarchy knocked back all interest in the 24-year-old and

Heckingbottom feels Berge’s opportunity at the highest level will come again.

High-flying United head to Hull for a Yorkshire derby this afternoon.

And Heckingbottom said: “There was not just interest in Sander from Brugge but some really big clubs in the Premier League as well.

That’s where he should be wanting to play and I’m obviously pleased for Sander because he’s getting recognition and that’s his next step.

“Sander has got his head round the fact that he’s staying here beyond the window closing and he’s happy with that.

“I can’t praise him enough for how he’s performed and how professional he is, but it’s difficult when you talk about significant sums of money and professional challenges.

“But he’s been so respectful to everyone at Sheffield United, the fans but particularly his teammates, and that’s credit to him as a bloke.”

United have won four straight games on home soil this season but have yet to win away.

Heckingbottom added: “I don’t know what team to expect from Hull but they will certainly have some new signings in their squad.

“They have got a good home record and are looking to get a 20,000 crowd so we’re hoping for a great atmosphere.”
