TIGERS NEEDED MORE BITE, SAYS BEATEN BORTHWICK

Premiership Round-up

BY ADAM HATHAWAY LEICESTER boss Steve Borthwick admitted Tigers missed too many chances as they came down to earth with a bump losing 24-20 to EXETER at Sandy Park.

Prop Patrick Schickerling piled over at the death to pull the game out of the fire.

Joe Simmonds’ conversion nailed the win for Chiefs.

Borthwick said: “Exeter came out with a specific plan and executed it very well, but we adapted by making a few tweaks to be leading on the scoreboard but we missed a few crucial opportunities.”

Chiefs head coach Ali Hepher reckons there is more to come. He said: “The way we grew into the game and showed little bits of our attack and defence coming together was really pleasing. It showed the potential of the group.”

Freddie Burns, Tigers’ dropgoal hero in the final win over Saracens, was binned in the first half for batting down Harvey Skinner’s kick with the fly-half going for the ball. That cost a penalty try and Chiefs were 17-6 up at the break before the visitors scored tries from Hanro Liebenberg and Charlie Clare.

But Liebenberg was caught offside with a minute left, Chiefs drove from the lineout and nicked the match.

Ellis Genge marked his second coming at BRISTOL with two tries as Bears beat BATH 31-29 at Ashton Gate.

Genge, who returned from Leicester in the summer, scored in the first and 71st minutes, but it was fly-half AJ Macginty who scored the winning conversion after Will Capon’s try at the death.
