EXPERIENCE: One of Travelodge’s recent new openings. Arriving guests are buzzed in from street-level by reception staff, before taking the lift to the first floor to check in.

The process was smooth and we were given credit card-style room keys. Security, as always in a Travelodge, is paramount, and guests are required to swipe their room keys to access the lifts and the different floors.

My Superroom was spotless. As was the shower room which had a paper seal across the loo to show it had just been cleaned. There were piles of fluffy white towels on a shelf and shower gel and hand soap in dispensers on the wall. In the bedroom, there was a king-sized Dreamer bed with soft throw, plenty of pillows, iron and ironing board, TV, hanging space, desk and chair, tea and coffee facilities, coffee machine plus… two Kit Kats.

The window looked out over the rooftops of Lewisham and although it’s on a bus route and next to a railway bridge, the soundproofing made it very quiet.

Breakfast in the first floor Bar Cafe restaurant was pleasant. It’s a large, light and airy space, overlooking the high street, with plenty of seating. It was selfservice from cereals and toast to full English. Staff were swift in keeping all items stocked. Just post your room key back into a box at reception to check-out.

QUIBBLES: None.

VERDICT: Clean room, a good night’s sleep, lovely breakfast, check-in and check-out slick.

10/10.
