Yates’ late show is enough to pile on misery for Bilic

- LINDSAY SUTTON

BLACKPOOL striker Jerry Yates burst into late action with two strikes in a cracking four-minute spell.

The 25-year-old hitman had blasted out a first-half warning with an early, on-target shot that was dealt with well by Watford keeper Daniel Bachmann.

But no one saw his two-goal purple patch coming.

It left new Hornets boss Slaven Bilic with two defeats on the trot, and this

Bilic said: “We were just not good enough. Blackpool wanted it more. They were quicker, sharper and anticipated everything better, just like it should be.

“The quality is there on paper for us, but that’s not enough. You have to fight for it.”

Seasiders boss Michael Appleton was spot on when he said: “We were much more aggressive and much braver in that second half, and we got our rewards.

“Yates’ second goal was superb. He’s got the personality and now he has four goals. Hopefully, he will now kick on and start scoring regularly.”

Gary Madine chalked up his first goal of the season, controlling a cross to then beat Bachmann.

But it was quickly cancelled out by Watford’s Imran Louza.

Then came Yates’ late show to finish off the Hornets good and proper.
