Tella the fella for Vincent

- NAT-URAL SCORER:

VINCENT KOMPANY felt it was the “ideal script” after Burnley extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches with a deserved win against basement club Coventry.

Nathan Tella’s goal on 39 minutes proved decisive as the Southampton loanee stabbed an accurate finish in off the left-hand post from Josh Cullen’s perfectlyweighted pass.

Coventry almost drew level on the stroke of half-time when Jonathan Panzo headed against the underside of the crossbar from close range from Kasey Palmer’s corner.

However, the Clarets comfortably closed out the win much to the delight of Kompany after Burnley conceded late goals in their previous two fixtures.

The Belgian said: “It was the ideal script, though I would have preferred to put the game behind us a bit earlier.

“When you’re on top of a game it’s important to finish it off and we weren’t capable of doing it today.

“We had to battle it out in the last 10 minutes, you don’t have any time to dwell in the Championship, you have to learn from your pains and move on and we did that.

“It’s a good thing we’re in a habit of leading rather than chasing, this is a good reference point for us.“

The Sky Blues remain rooted to the foot of the table and failed to manage a single shot on target all afternoon.

City boss Mark Robins moaned: “It was too easy, one ball over the top, we can’t get done like that.”
