PERISIC PREDICTS STRONG FINISH FOR SPURS

- Harry Pratt

IVAN PERISIC accepts Tottenham are underperforming this season.

But the vastly-experienced Croatian winger, signed on a free from Inter Milan last July, is equally adamant there is more than enough time to set the record straight and finish the campaign on a high.

Perisic, 34, delivered his rallying call ahead of the North Londoners’ latest capital clash at home to West Ham this afternoon.

Antonio Conte’s men have been somewhat inconsistent in recent months, constantly flirting with the Premier League top four rather than grabbing the initiative and rubberstamping their place inside it.

Yet, despite a 4-1 thumping at Leicester last Saturday, they are very much in the hunt for Champions League qualification.

Perisic, who won Serie A in 2021 with Conte’s Inter, said: “We all need to do better because, in my opinion, thus far we haven’t really shown what we are capable of.

“But the season is far from over, there are still a lot of games to go and we have time.

“We know that this is a very important, perhaps the most important, part of the season... because between now and the end of the season every game will be a final.

“We need the points and just have to try to win every time.”

Spurs also have an FA Cup fifth-round tie at Championship promotion pacesetters Sheffield United looming next month.

Throw in their Champions League round-of-16 home leg against AC Milan – with a onestill goal deficit to overturn after last Tuesday’s clash at the San Siro – and it is clear, according to Perisic, there is much glory to target.

He said: “We’re still in contention, just outside the top four. We have the return against Milan and we’re in the last 16 of the FA Cup.

“So, it is all to play for. We are in good shape and we can do even better.”
