‘Mullin is worth a go for Wales’
MICKEY THOMAS believes Wrexham hot-shot Paul Mullin can help fire Wales to Euro 2024 glory.
Mullin, whose 38 goals in the National League helped the North Wales club end their 15-year Football League exile, is qualified to represent the Dragons through his Welsh grandmother.
His dream is to receive a Wales call-up, and with two European Championship qualifiers against Armenia and Turkey coming up soon, Welsh legend Thomas insists that the time is right for national manager Rob Page to give Mullin a go.
“Wales aren’t exactly overloaded with quality strikers, so why not give Paul Mullin a chance?”, Thomas (below) said.
“OK his goals have come in non-league but he has played some high-pressure games because of all the publicity and interest surrounding Wrexham due to their Hollywood owners.
“Having seen him at close quarters he appears to me to be a natural goalscorer. Put him on any stage and I believe he will deliver.”
Mullin, who was born on Merseyside but is now registered with Wrexham as Welsh, said: “I’d love to play for Wales.
“Looking at the Wales team, the togetherness speaks to me. The people in Wales have treated me as one of their own.”
Thomas added: “I think calling him into the next Wales squad will cause a positive buzz, because everyone needs a lift, with Gareth Bale having decided to call it a day.
“I don’t think Paul would be afraid of the challenge of stepping up in class.
“He has had a good upbringing in terms of having been in Everton and Liverpool’s academies.
“The season just finished saw him hit 47 goals in 53 games all told. Surely that’s worth a Wales callup?
“His confidence is skyhigh, people believe in him. The fans love him. He
