…but rapper’s mum tips him to be PM
HE may be an award-winning superstar worth £32million but Stormzy still gets rapped by his mum.
Abigail Owuo says she will never let the Big For Your Boots singer get too big for his own, admitting she tells him to “calm down” if he forgets where he came from.
When asked if she ever reprimands the 30-year-old grime star – real name Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr – Abigail said: “I do. I say to him, ‘Listen, come home. Let your mind come home. Even though you are where you are, calm down’. I keep his feet on the ground.
“I don’t worry about people taking advantage of him because he’s a very smart boy and a good judge of character.”

Love Island host Maya
Jama, 29, who he originally split from in 2019.
Speaking at this year’s
Grow Unite Build Awards in London, Abigail said:
“Will they get married and have children? Oh, I don’t know. For now, it’s up to the two of them.”
On raising her own children, she said: “I do think it’s harder now for this generation than when I was growing up. “These children… they’ll finish university, they don’t have jobs so some take matters into their own hands, especially if they don’t have help.
“But [for me] it’s prayers. You advise them and then you pray for them.” Abigail has high hopes for Stormzy’s future, though. She said: “I keep telling him, ‘You might be the next Prime Minister’. You never know because he was very good in school. He had an A* in Politics, so I said, ‘I am watching you… you, one day, [will] come up.’”
Last year, Stormzy’s third studio album, This Is What I Mean, was nominated for Album of the Year at the Brits. But despite his success, Abigail admits his hits go over her head. She laughed: “Some of his music, I don’t understand it! He knows… “Sometimes I’ll ask my younger son, ‘What is he saying?!’ I do enjoy his music though.”
