Mauricio slams flop stars after latest blow

- FUMING:

Pochettino

MAURICIO POCHETTINO blamed his side’s lack of energy and hunger without the ball for failing to beat Burnley’s 10 men.

Chelsea twice led through

Cole Palmer’s strikes.

The first came from a 43rd-minute penalty which saw Burnley’s Lorenz Assignon receive a second yellow for bringing down Mykhailo Mudryk and Clarets boss Vincent Kompany red carded for his angry reaction to the decision.

But despite the man disadvantage, Burnley struck back through Josh Cullen and Dara O’shea to grab a point.

Pochettino said: “We are disappointed and frustrated by the way we managed the game.

“We are a team that when we are going forward we can create many chances but today we did not show the energy, the hunger without the ball.

“We did not show the minimum to compete in the Premier League.

“In the defensive phase we did not compete enough, that is why I am so upset and disappointed.

“Sometimes for different reasons we are too slow evolving in this area and that was the key.

“It is not to find excuses. The team played well. We had energy when we had the ball.

“But when we did not have the ball we did not show the same energy.”

Burnley assistant manager Craig Bellamy did not want to comment on the controversial penalty decision and red cards, but shared the pride he and boss Kompany had after their side’s battling performance.

He said: “It was incredible. It was selfless, they were there for each other.

“The patience they had to show, the organisation and commitment, you could be nothing but proud of them. The manager really enjoyed it and he was really proud of them.”
